47 Chinese apps banned in India as 2nd Digital Strike
Post ban on 59 Chinese apps, nearly after a month, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology adds 47 more banned Chinese apps to the list. These apps appear to be alternative and/or lite versions of already banned 59 apps. Complete list of these 47 banned apps is yet to release officially by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Expected to be released by this weekend.
Few of them include TikTok Lite, Help Lite, ShareIt Lite, Bigo Live Lite and VFY Lite. These apps managed to operate after the ban of their full versions on 29 June this year. However, these versions are taken down from Google Play Store and Apple App Store says the Ministry.
Additional 275 apps are currently under scanning radar by GoI for security reasons, violated data sharing and privacy concerns. These include PUBG backed by Tencent Games, AliExpress, Zili, Resso and more. Government has processes involved and a committee in place to check, suggest and impose such ban orders, adds an official of ministry.
PUBG !? – a brief on the origin
This massive game has its largest user base in India with around 175 million downloads. And over 10 – 15 million active PUBG mobile players. PUBG was developed and published by PUBG corporation along with BlueStudio. Now the duo is unified as Krafton Game Union. PUBG Mobile, created by Tencent Games after PUBG ban in China, later released worldwide was a hit in gaming realm. Also Tencent Games bagged 10% stake in Bluehole, in 2018.
However there is no official declaration yet about ban on this battle-royale video gaming app. Let’s wait and see..!
On a side note, if the ban is imposed what do you think the next opts be? Fortnite, Call-of-duty (COD) or anyother new one that doesn’t have to face such security threats to be used in India ?
